Where do we stand today?
(Canscene) — It was recently announced the British Broadcasting Corporation had completed a survey of nearly 29,000 people in 127 different countries to determine which had the most positive image.
The survey, made by a well known pollster group and the University of Maryland came up with the report that Canada offered the world the most positive image followed by Japan and France.
And, said the survey, Israel had the most negative image, followed closely by Iran and the United States.
In between, Britain, China and India were viewed more positively than negatively with Russia dropping to the negative side
It appears said the university’s Steven Kull that people around the world tend to look negatively at countries whose profile is marked by the pursuit of military power
The joker is the survey was completed in January 2006 and it’s taken this long to get results. Since then, Canada has heard some good old sabre rattling from Defence Minister Gordon O’Connor and General Rick Hillier. both of hawkish disposition. and both happy to accent the belligerent side of our mission to Afghanistan. Wanna place any bets on Canada’s still being Number One?
