New head for CRRF

(Canscene) Andrée Ménard, the acting chair of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) has announced the appointment of Dr. Ayman Al-Yassini, as the new executive director of the Foundation.

Al-Yassini is a former member and coordinator of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB), and special advisor to the board’s deputy hair.

He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from McGill University, specializing in international relations and the politics of developing areas, with a focus on the Middle East, has been with the Immigration and Refugee Board since 1994. Prior to joining the IRB, he was Executive Director of International Trade at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, with the primary responsibility for relations with Taiwan and the ASEAN countries.

In addition to his expertise in international relations and politics of developing areas, Al-Yassini has written extensively on the relationship between religion and state in Islam and religion and development in the Arab world. Prior to joining the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, he was a frequent media commentator on Islam and the Middle East and participated in a large number of Canadian and international meetings and conferences. A resident of Québec for over 38 years, Al-Yassini is fluent in English, French and Arabic.
